I would imagine the Tories are pretty high on the ban list.
Scrapping Human Rights, Not wanting ulimited EU immigration (even if they wouldn't do anythign about it) Not singing "Ode to Joy" everytime the EU is mentioned. Pretty extreme to me. Oh and the Lib Dems didn't whole heartedly back the country in time of war did it. Ban them too.

I wonder how many years it will be when another party is in power that the New Labour party will be banned?
Maybe it would be a watershed for the BNP to be banned, new start... The extremists could go off to the NF, the intelligentsia will then form a new party, or even team up with other parties to form one large party which may even challenge the Conservatives. Leaving the conservatives to either assimilate their close rivals or just resign themselves to permanently cancelling each other out. |

Hazel Blears (since the election no longer permanently grinning) has taken on the "menace role" as second fiddle to FatBoy Clarke. What with the legal meddlings of Lord Falconer (what a Lord Chancellor he is!!), Blears is likely to be the cause of more problems rather than the cure!!
Banning the BNP would create a backlash of trouble. 800,000 voted in the Euro elections. The party has a possible ceiling support, I think, of around a million. That's a lot of people who could get stirred up, some obviously more than others. I would "prefer" a legally constituted BNP than an underground "white movement". Hazel Blears is so hamfisted at all this she might just try a ban. The word ban is never far from New Labour's brain. Banning organisations is no cure. Look at Sinn Fein/IRA! How come Omar Bakri was OK for 10 years and not now? Because of the bombs! Is this how New Labour works? If New Labour wants to help the situation, then let them use existing laws. A lot of the problem is that they cannot admit that the EU has tied their hands over immigration and human rights!! |

I'm confused. Isn't there something in the EU Human Rights Rag which gives folks the right to belong to any political party they please?

Depends if the political party is legitmate or not. If the powers taht be decide the BNP is a hate organisation, then they can say it is no longer a political party, but a terrorist group.
Bottom line, those in charge can do what they want if the people let them.
