What are the civil liberties implications following the bombings? Here are my predictions
Blair will use the bombings as an excuse to push through id cards even though: · The IT system behind them will be massively expensive (as with all Government departments) · The systems will be staggeringly inefficient (as with most government departments) · It will all be entirely pointless as id card will not prevent acts of terrorism (as the Madrid proved) Also what’s the betting that pressure will be brought to bear to make an example of e BNP chairman, Nick Griffin when he comes to trial? Blair won’t like the continued electoral ramifications on having to hunt down Muslim terrorists and would dearly like to show the Asian community that he’s really on their side by jailing someone who made a personal comment in a private meeting that wasn’t complementary about their religion! If Nick Griffin isn’t convicted then Blair will use this as an excuse to bulldoze his ‘anti religious hatred’ bill through Parliament, stating that the verdict ‘proves’ such a law is needed. As the Griffin prosecution and the proposed new law are primarily aimed at the BNP, those who are opposed to the BNP might be tempted to cheer. I would suggest they think long and hard about the wisdom of investing the state with even more powers to limit freedom and civil liberties. If it’s the BNP today, who will it be tomorrow? |

I don't think they are that focused on the BNP. If they banged Griffin up now, they would create a martyr of their own, and even Liebour aren't stupid enough to do that.
For sure they will force through their plans on making us all more track-able. With the ridiculous anti-race/religion laws they have planned, they will also give the law more excuses to lock anyone up. No doubt about it, we are getting INTO phpbb_dangerous territory here. I don't think many here will cheer liberties being eroded, with no benefit to the public what-so-ever.

They appear to have no clue about the real feelings of young British Muslims and they have pretty little understanding of the way general English society thinks - and I don't mean in a rabidly racist way, which is an un-English thing. Address our concerns, Mr. Blair, before they become fears. Fears are for extremists! |

I read today that the Anti-Religious Hate Bill is one was of combating Islamic Fundamentalism. This I don't agree. At least now these people speak of there vile and contorded views openly. If this Bill goes though it'll all be pushed underground. Then it'll be so difficult to know who and what these people are saying and be much harder to watch them. It'll all end in tears. So yes you right, Blair and co hasn't got a clue.
