Default Blair may go nuclear on ID Cards!

Quote:
Prime Minister Tony Blair today refused to rule out using the Parliament Act to force through the Government's controversial plans for ID cards.
From politics.co.uk http://www.politics.co.uk/domestic-policy/blair-id-cards-bill-could-be-forced-through-$16049344.htm Blair's getting very undemocratic - Remember everyone. He's only there on 21.6% of the eligible vote! Democracy is not his strongest suit!

This is an ID card for a country which I don't want to be a part of. Who else wants to be a part of it?

The UK, England is my country and I don't need an ID card to be a citizen... Subject.

I think we need to make a stand. We are not citizens of the country which New Labour has formed.

IceDragon - To precis your post a little:-

Quote:
Citizens of Britain - not subjects of the state.
I like that. Catchy.

I prefer Subjects of the Crown rather than Citizens of the State. It was again the great Grocer Heath who changed the law with the influx of Ugandan Asians.

However, it was the British Nationality Act 1948 that made us all subserviant to the state. Before then it was quite usual to be a British Subject without citizenship. This status was, of course, frowned upon by the centralising statist tendencies of the Attlee government of 1945-51. Brother Blair is just adding to the curtailment of expression and freedom!

Ice dragon is right. England did not vote for Labour. They did not get the majority of votes in England.

England and Wales are the main targets in the id cards system. For now.

Scotland has already said it will not include that country in the id cards on anything that has been devolved to Scotland, which is just about everything, including the NHS.

Wales has recently said the top up fees will not apply to Wales, so with the new powers being devolved to Wales, it is highly likely they will take the same stance as Scotland in the near future.

That leaves only England having to carry the id cards. That means a government with no mandate to govern us, will be using the same Scottish MPs to force unfair legislation onto England once again.

The union is dead. Its in its death throes and the longer it goes on, the greater the mess that England will be left in.

I know what is going to happen. The ID cards will be the replacement of council tax, as the poll tax was the replacement of the rates. It will be a flat rate of somewhere between £1000 and £2000 per annum to keep the card up to date and without it you will probably not be able to make a purchase, draw money or pay money, work, buy food or anything other than sit in a chair and mark time.

I like the "Citizens of Britain - not subjects of the state." and I also like the "Subjects of the Crown rather than Citizens of the State". Both sum up the opposition to these ID cards!

I think we have become alienated by this new country which has covered our country. I think that we all should go one step further and instead of reacting to everything that Tony does we should do something.

If someone could organise a statement which people could put their endorsements on along the lines of this country is turning INTO phpbb_something that we no longer are a part of, it would open the eyes of the population finally.

Surely the ID card bill must cover the whole of the UK otherwise the 570,000 illegal immigrants will all go north of the border, along with terrorists, subversives, and deviants! Has Alex Salmond thought of that?

Again it will only affect the decent hardworking people who will have to pay out for this damned card.

Do you really reckon criminals will register? Not likely.
Terrorists? You're having a laugh!

The only people who will suffer are the normal people, who will then be tracked accross the city-scapes and charged the absolute maximum for using the services they have already paid for in tax.
