Default Gutless loser MP's back ID cards

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4632299.stm

Quote:
Ministers have won a Commons vote over their controversial ID cards plan but their majority was cut from 67 to 31.
Tories, Lib Dems and a number of rebel Labour MPs are thought to have voted against the bill's second reading.
Disgusting. My night is going from bad to worse.

I understand some Tory MPs didn't bother to vote.

Because half the w**ky Tories support ID cards.

They are just as bad as Liebour. Even Davis says he sees nothing wrong with them in principle.

Don't worry - judging by the feeling on the ground they're going to have a very hard time making this work. Much like the poll tax, I expect.

Today was a day of sharp contrast; the 200th anniversary of Trafalgar showing how great Britain can be, and the ID cards bill being voted through, showing how much trouble this country is currently in. But I can't see a way out. No patriotic party is going to be elected in the near future, and the Tories are just as keen as Labour are on selling us out.

Only a few months ago I E-mailed Michael Howard about my concerns over ID cards, and got an E-mail back giving ID cards a glowing reference, telling me "he has always supported the introduction of identity cards, both as Home Secretary and subsequently as a backbencher."

Unless there is a miracle, I cannot see any way in which Britain can continue as a free and soverign nation, even in the medium term.

In Labour we trusted and now we are busted... again. It's the economy, stupid.

This could be a Labour death-knell, albeit it smaller an issue to most than the poll tax.

But big enough to create a massive backlash.

Pretty good result in the long term, methinks.

I don't think we should be too disheartened. A slender majority at this point before the full facts are aired with most of the public means it may well be kicked out at a later stage.

Just as an aside, the BBC website lists the 49 items of information that, according to the bill, will be held on the card.

see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4630045.stm

Interestingly, if you scroll down a bit you will find, under the sub heading "record history" the following item of information.

Quote:
date of death.
Now, either we are in a Logan's run situation here (!) or it means that the cards will be kept by the gov after the death of the holder.

Probably so that no-one can do a 'Day of the Jackal' with the identity.
