Default BBC to Time-Delay Live Sensitive News

http://channels.netscape.ca/entertai...22200909990003

Quote:
LONDON (AP) - The BBC will introduce a time delay for live broadcasts of sensitive news events such as the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States and the school massacre in Beslan, Russia, the company said Thursday.

The several-second delay will allow editors time to cut scenes deemed too shocking, the broadcaster said.
Ominous. Sure they don't want kids seeing certain things. However this could be misused and abused to make sure the public only get the news they want us to see.

I don't have kids in my home, so I want the real uncensored, undelayed news as it happens.

I agree, this very dodgy. The problem is "Joe Public" will say ,"Good old BBC looking after our interests again"

That's fine as long as ITV do provide it, but they may go the same way.

As the BBC is supposed to be our public broadcasting organisation, funded by tax payers cash, I think they need to be seen as not censoring things, or at least providing the option for those of us who are not squeamish.

I'm in conspiracy mode today, so throw me a frickin bone here.

It's not really about sensitive people being shocked it is about not letting people really know what is going on. If there was a biological incident in London for instance, would the government want people to be able to escape before they were all corralled in to die?

If the BBC had a time delay on news before now, how would they have dealt with the foxhunters entering the Commons, Blair's "Ceausescu" moment at the last Labour conference (when he blinked in a panicky way at the lights in front of him searching for the trouble), again with foxhunting gatecrashers, and the very occasional heckler that gets past the goons at election time, such as the legendary Sharron Storer in 2001! :?
