Absolute **** that 80% of the populace support them. Perhaps it was 80% of labour's voters

Waste of money, ineffective, potential for abuse by corrupt government. The choice of dictatorships everywhere. No thanks. I still believe in Britain being a free country, not an open prison. Criminals work around systems anyway, thats what makes them criminals. The only people these stupid little plastic cards and their related database will effect is general public. Money out of our economy every year on something that has zero upside (yes zero) and the potential for plenty of downside.

Personally I oppose them, and I would have liked it if Howard had said no to them.
I do want to say this though: I find it somewhat worrying that some people claim a reason for not having identity cards is that they may not be able to work with children unless they have one. Now, I hope I don’t need to remind anyone of Ian Huntley, and I certainly hope I’m not alone in saying I wouldn’t like a repeat. |

I.D. cards cannot improve on this ... indeed, unless I.D. cards are updated immediately changes are necessary, the current system is preferable. I do not envisage I.D cards having any but a negative impact upon our society.

But the innocent have nothing to fear scream the proponents.
Just like the innocents of: North Korea China Burma Cuba Vietnam Iran Zimbabwe Chile Taliban Afganistan Ba'athist Iraq The USSR The Third Reich ...and so on ad infinitum throughout human history. 'Those who would sacrifice liberty in the pursuit of security deserve neither' as it were. |

The thing is, although I agree that we shouldn't have identity cards, I don't think screaming "I won't be able to work with children unless I've an identity card" is the best way of gaining support for the against identity cards campaign - if anything, it'll do the complete opposite. |

On this issue I don't care, as long as the Bliar/EU plan of barcoding our backsides is stopped.
