Do you support ID cards?

Ok, the thing about true democracy is we can avoid it (ID cards), if you take we to mean the people. while the rest of your post was largely about thier desirabilty and ill leave that for others as ive stated my opinion already, this is a factual error. And if it *isnt* a factual error then we have to conceed right now that we are not living in a democracy (or that over 51% of the people want it)

Gareth, I think what matters more is whether or not you do or don't want them and whether or not you do or do not have the people power to reject or accept them. Thing is if a lot of others do want them you will have to accept their democratic right to want them in turn. Why is a referendum not called? Why all the dodgy polls instead? (Rhetorical question.)

Referendem would suit me. Like Australia where it started off popular, people will learn they will get nothing for their money and that it could expose them to horrible abuses of the system.

If Britain voted for them after all the information, I would be on the first plane out of here anyway.

Id dig a refferendum. I know we would be a lot better of with a swiss system of electoral ballots, with enough signatures meaning a relevent question is put on the voting slip.

Why is that not implemented? (sympathetic rhetorical question :? )

You should have one on immigration as well. You have a right not to be invaded. In your case it's not a couple of rocket scientists and some football stadium toilet cleaners, who will monumentally enrich you but half the third world's drug gang initiates looking for a stamping ground and a horde of people fleeing regimes they should themselves be working to undermine right at home, rather than going through the people traffickers' brochures of best deals on welfare states and paying cash to be transported hence.
