The English sure as hell don't want it, and the Protestant majority there are of mainly Scottish descent, planted there by the Scottish Stuart monarchs. It's also a lot closer to Scotland. Why the hell should we be lumbered with it?

On the other hand, Northern Ireland can become part of the rest of Ireland, and those with Scottish descent who don't like that can move to Scotland.

Yes, fine with me. It was wrong to partition it, a sign of British weakness of will after WW1.

Weakness of will? Over 1 million men were dead, another million bore the physical scars of war, there had been a massive flu outbreak that had decimated the population and the UK needed a civil war like a hole in the head. Carson had the upper hand and the Protestant Irish didn't want to live under the Pope. You need to read a lot more history before you make such a glib and ill informed post.

Yes. That's exactly what caused the weakness of will, you see. It wasn't a moral judgement.

The Bosnian Serbs didn't want to be part of an independent Bosnia. Same situation - different outcome.

What a strange thread, sometimes I think we have as many Irish, Scots and Welsh living in England as there are in these countries. Largely we share the same gene pool, similar culture, history and language and we have intermarried and fought side by side in 2 major conflicts and both Scotland and Northern Island have strategic interests to the defence of England. I am sure we do not want a nuclear armed sub of a foreign power to take up residence in one of the coastal inlets in Scotland.

    HMS Adamant * HMS Adamant
HMS ADAMANT was a purpose built submarine depot ship, launched at Harland & Wolff, Belfast.
She entered the coastal inlet of Inverkeithing Fife, in Gaelic Socialist Republic of Scotland.
