Import tarifs could be considered but would need to be weighed against the benefits of international trade.

It's funny I was reading a book by tax havens that in passing discussed Keynes who was against printing money and only did so as an emergency. He thought goods should be made close to the market where they were sold and wanted controls to stop financial speculators. Seems to me he got wrongly labelled as a spender.

Yes, but the rules don't allow it at present - it is where I believe we will eventually end up - but it will be a painful process getting there!

Car spares, clothing, jewellery, food, household items, electrical consumer items are mostly imported and sold at a ridiculously cheaper price than the British counterparts, few that are available. Regretfully, maximising PROFIT is the primary business drive in our Capitalist society and the availability of cheap overseas labour and overhead costs are driving the manufacturing and production industries out of Britain or running them into the ground. Afraid we are currently unable to compete with India, China and other far-eastern upcoming nations in this respect.
Very Christian of you Bwana, well done!

If you think buying British is bad try buying English, we can travel the world and see products in the countries we visit labeled Made in Germany, Produced in France, Manufactured on Mars and so on but go out in our own land and find something Made in England, even food stuffs like fresh meat and vegetables are "Produced in the UK" or Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Patagonia (yep Patagonia) all on sale in Asda but no English that I have found, and believe me I HAVE looked. Even protected identity products like Stilton is UK not English made, WHY?

Waitrose organic, cabbages from Lincs, Carrots and Parsnips from Shropshire and English mustard from Wiltshire. Leeks too from England. of course it's more pricey but at least I feel I'm doing something for our farmers.

Mill 3 I've been posting on-line petitions, they appear to be having an effect. Avaaz went after both Murdoch and RBS bonuses and it has brought them into the media spotlights. Of course Europe is a tougher one but the Poeple's Pledge is a good place to start.
