Unfortunately like all such meetings, more preaching to the converted!

Understood, Kernow, but remember that the LSC is a predominently Conservative group that is becoming more and more oriented towards UKIP. Also, we hope to present some completely new arguments against the CFP.

IM me, and I will send you a copy of 'Dead in the Water', and hopefully you will agree that we are breaking new ground here.

Never forget that Greenland managed to leave the EU after being unable to reach a satisfactory agreement on fishing rights. It's still part of the EU Association of Overseas Countries and Territories because of its relationship with Denmark. Greenland citizens are still EU citizens despite the withdrawal, because they are also Danish citizens.

IMHO, the CFP is one area that the eurosceptic movement could use to sway the British public towards a more eurosceptic stance at the moment.

Groups like the Swinton Circle have ****** all influence on the Conservative Party. They are treated as nothing more than a handy place to sweep any right wing discontent so they can froth at the mouth and rant and rave amongst their own!

If you are that deluded in thinking that the LSC is becoming more and more orientated towards UKIP then think again. They are Tories first and foremost. They are also desperate for speakers so anybody will do to plug gaps in their speaker list!

Far better if UKIP MEPs went on a speaking tour of fishing/coastal towns where their message will be heard by new people and given wider publicity.

Basildon boy, as a long-term member of the LSC, (and prior to my 'posting' to Brussels, an LSC committee member) I have seen a big change in the make-up of attendees at meetings over the last couple of years. At a recent meeting, addressed by Nigel Farage, we even had a couple of politics students.

Influence over the Conservative party? Only this morning's tabloid headlines can claim to have that!

Tom has meetings with fishermen in the pipeline, as per your suggestion. I would be pleased to post you a copy of 'Dead in the Water' if you wish. Your comments would be most welcome. I extend that offer to any forum users.

Tom Wise MEP in the European Parliament Ind - Dem Group UK Independence Party UKIP Eastern Region Region

I was delighted to be given the opportunity, on March 27th, to present my paper on fisheries management "Dead in the Water", to the London Swinton Circle.

I was very impressed by the turnout; it was literally 'standing room only', and I was surprised by the number of young people in the audience. I was also pleased to see that some old friends and UKIP colleagues were present.

It was a highly enjoyable evening, and I thank LSC Chairman Alan Harvey for his kind invitation and the members of the LSC for such delightful and interesting company.

Tom Wise MEP

Brussels, 01 April 2008.
