Default Local newspapers and CREC

alteclansing, good point.

Sadly we have not really been able to address marketing and promotion (due to lack of time and resources); if we had done, the Purple Postcard campaign might be even more successful than it is.

To give two examples.

Supporters of ours, without our knowledge and on their own initiative, wrote letters in the last 4 weeks to the Western Morning News and the Lancashire Evening News publicising the availability of the cards.

We had a shoal of enquiries from the south-west and from Lancashire as a direct result

Default From the Australian Monarchist League...

From the Australian Monarchist League...

QUOTE

We are concerned that the implementation of the Treaty of Lisbon, also termed The European Reform Treaty, may have consequences which could well affect the status of The Queen as Queen of Australia and other Realms.

The enforced citizenship of the Union shall, under the Treaty of Lisbon, now “be additional to national citizenship” and not, as before merely “complement” it. The EU Council of Ministers has not been able to explain what obligations this citizenship would impose on The Queen in regard to her position as Queen of nations outside the authority of the Union, advising that it is not within their competence. No one has also been able to explain what the position would be if it is held that those Acts of the British Parliament which still have relevance to the Realms, such as the Statute of Westminster and the Act of Settlement, are found to conflict with European legislation which now has an overriding authority.

This matter is of such importance to the stability of our own constitutional arrangements, that I appeal to the British Parliament to have these matters clarified in a legislative format, rather than merely accepting unsubstantiated assurances which have no legal significance. The questions contained within this letter are the very ones we should all be asking. The ‘Crown’ and all it represents – the Sovereignty of the British People – is at the very heart of the argument about whether any one of us, let alone the British Sovereign, can ever – legally – become ‘citizens of the EU’.

Default Over 135,000

Sales of the purple postcard - on Day 58 of the campaign - have now topped 135,000, helped substantially by a further (second) order for 5,000 cards from Mr Dave Cox of Bournemouth & Southampton UKIP. I met him today in Bournemouth and handed over the cards personally. There are some good activists in the area getting the cards out

Default Palace next week

How many cards received at the Palace?

This is a great unknown, and I don't suppose the Palace will give us a runnig total every day, but even if only say one quarter of those sent out have so far been delivered to the Palace, that would be 35,000 or so, or over 500 a day.

The Committee of CREC has been invited to the Palace next week by Tim Rolph of the Private Secretary's staff (the day and time to be fixed) to present a selection of signed cards to a Palace official. Around 3 to 6 of the CREC committee will attend. An updating letter stressing the urgency of The Queen needing to prepare to exercise her Royal Assent powers will be handed in.

We can take photos and are desperately looking for someoe with video-making/YouTube experience who can make an adequate-quality video of up to 10 minutes, probably quite a bit shorter, explaining what the campaign is about and then putting it up, with visual images of us walking in to Buckingham Palace, on YouTube.

****We will pay for someone with professional expertise, or a good quality amateur who has already put something up on YouTube, to do this****

Please ring me ASAP 01279 635789

Default Letter from a CREC Supporter

LETTER SEBT TO THE QUEEN AND A COPY RECEIVED FROM A CREC SUPPORTER BY CREC Yesterday:

==========

QUOTE

Your Majesty,

I am not a lawyer but a humble subject of your majesty and an engineer (Concorde designer) with a working knowledge of the Constitution of your Kingdom. About 15 years ago I was helped in the better comprehension of the Constitution by a reply to a letter I had written to your then Secretary, who I recall as being Sir Robin (Robert?) Fellows.

In that letter he told me that you had been shown my letter and asked him to inform me that the Monarch, by convention, could not withhold the Royal Assent from a Bill that had been enacted by Parliament. I was, at that time, seeking to influence you to withhold such assent from the enactment of the Maastricht Treaty into UK law.

As it turned out, the Bill to so incorporate it was never passed by the House of Commons. It failed at the final hurdle, as I recall, over the Social Chapter. That would normally have meant the resignation of the Government. This it avoided by putting down a Motion of Confidence, which it won, hence avoiding such need. But the document that your Ministers put before you to sign did not per se have the agreement of Parliament. The Bill was never subjected to a re-vote!

While your signature itself may not be ultra vires - because you may well have been minded to sign anyway, as is your Prerogative - if it was presented as an Act approved by both Houses of Parliament in accordance with the Constitution, you were misled. If you were not made aware of this and your ministers presented the document as being the will of Parliament then, in my opinion, tantamount, your ministers were committing treason.

That has now passed! However, the first active line of that Treaty defines "an ever closer union…" presaging further Treaties of its kind. Indeed we have since had the Amsterdam and Nice Treaties as part of the sequence.

But at the last General Election the Labour Party promised that if it won, it would negotiate a Treaty to combine all the Treaties of this series into a Constitution for a European Union, place a Bill before Parliament to enact it and to submit the result to a Referendum of the British people (your subjects) prior to being presented for Royal Assent. By this promise, it diffused the contentious issue of "Europe" from the General Election campaign so as to be able to concentrate on "bread & butter" issues.

As I am no doubt sure you are aware, voters of other EU member States rejected that Treaty so the matter became seemingly academic. But in the fullness of time (a period of reflection), the High Contracting Parties reworked the document into another Treaty of this same series. Now being called the Reform Treaty, on the pretext that it is not the Treaty for which it had obtained a mandate, the Government has not included the need for a Referendum in its Bill now before Parliament. But you will know that upon that interpretation Your Majesty's Government has no mandate to enact it, though it is nonetheless entitled to seek Parliamentary approval. That being so, it has no legitimacy to invoke the Parliament Act, should the House of Lords in its wisdom amend the Bill (perhaps to include a Referendum), to overturn the wishes of that House.

So far, what I have written does not differ greatly from the wording on the card, as part of a concerted campaign, that I have enclosed. And furthermore, the matter is between the Government and its electorate. But the card omits something that I believe to be crucial.

To date, the (Lisbon) Treaty is a treaty (an agreement between governments of sovereign states) signed by your ministers 'assuming' the Royal Prerogative. It has yet to have any direct effect on your subjects. The Maastricht Treaty took away some of the rights of UK citizens to regulate their affairs via their own Parliament and, being ultra vires, that is bad enough.

However, the Reform Treaty permits an authority higher than that of the Crown (i.e. foreign) to agree treaties outwith the involvement of the head of state of the United Kingdom that apply to your Kingdom. Again, you may be minded to agree to that arrangement but, as the card points out, you are under the obligation of the solemn Coronation Oath, aspects of which may be contrary to such action. It is arguable that this aspect of the Treaty (as a treaty), having been signed by all those with authority to do so, is presently in force. I enquire if this usurping of your power "be your wish?"

"Confound their politics, frustrate their knavish tricks…"

Yours sincerely
