And the French haven't won a war for a very long time indeed. That is a historical fact.

Patriotism has to be displayed in action and not just in words. And the best way France can display its patriotism at this point in time is to pull out of the euro and return to using the French Franc.

After all, there's not much point in having a national football team which wins the World Cup if they represent a country (France) which can't even set its own interest rate.

Default Anti-EU party of Philippe de Villiers MEP, UKIP, EU Constitution, France, UK, Chirac

In reply to posting number seven in this thread from Aardvark:

One interesting thing I noticed earlier this year was that although the UK is seen as being more eurosceptic than France, the anti-EU party of Philippe de Villiers MEP (the French anti-EU MEP) actually got about 200, 000 more votes in this year's French Presidential election than UKIP did at the last General Election (over 800, 000 to UKIPs 630, 000 votes). In percentage terms, both parties actually got about an equal share of the vote in France and in the UK.

There is certainly a strong anti-EU element in France but it is not (yet) as strong as the anti-EU movement in the UK. Some of the people who voted against the EU Constitution in France did so because they did not think it was 'european enough' (i.e. they objected to it because they thought that it did not transfer enough power from France to the EU). Had Chirac not been unpopular and had the EU Constitution had more of a 'social' element (i.e. if it had been more pro-trade union) then there is the possibility that France would actually have voted for the EU Constitution 'treaty' in May 2005.

Default EU Constitution, referendum, EU, France, EU Common Agricultural Policy, UK taxpayer

Unfortunately, some of those in France demanding another referendum on the EU Constitution want one because they think that the EU Constitution 'does not go far enough' (i.e. they want even more powers to be transferred from the nation states to the EU).

Whether there is another referendum on the EU Constitution (EU 'Amending' Treaty) or not, France will continue to receive huge amounts of British money from the EU - including from the EU Common Agricultural Policy which the UK taxpayer keeps afloat for nothing in return.

B.
Just spent a few days in Spain - according to the guide, a fairly unprepossesing tract of land on the Costa Blanca coast was 1st choice for Eurodisney but the locals backed by their ajuntamente told Disney to sod off. Paris was apparently 3rd choice after somewhere in Belgium.

Incidentally, drove from Alicante to Valencia and all points in between and didn't see a single speed camera or CCTV camera (except in shops). Strangely there were also no high speed accidents nor street crimes that I could see. No parking problems either as very few "yellow lines" - and most parking was free.

Not all rosy though as apparently the Valencian government is trying to bring in a law to force holiday property owners to "rent" their holiday homes to legalised illegal immigrants if otherwise empty for more than 6 months a year. Don't know how true this is but Spain does have some property laws very alien to our way of thinking.

So, if they are going to do this stuff, why didn't they do it to the Royal Mail strikers then? The Government know that if they actually bully strikers, out in full view of the media, then they'll come off worse. With the way things are going at the moment they have to be seen to be allowing us some freedom due to accusations about civil liberties being eroded.

People should blockade regardless of the bullying tactics of some officials. If we sat around while Hitler was invading most of Europe then it would be a different type of European Union we'd be worrying about.

When the French had their blockades no-one gave them much trouble because they knew the truckers would cause them problems, we need to project this image to the traitors.

French police are in the same union as French truckers - I am told.
