I think you guys are mostly right about the influence of the MSM, Sun, Torygraph etc.
But I also think you have overlooked one aspect of the 1992 GE. That is Kinnock's disastrous performance at the Sheffield rally, a day or two before polling day. Who could take the ranting Welsh windbag seriously after he tried and failed to do a Mick Jagger on the audence with his hysterical cries of "Well alright! Well alright!" He just made himself look like a complete a*se! Which, granted, is not an uphill struggle if your name is Neil Kinnock!

I rather think that the 1992 election would have been better lost for the Tories and the ERM debacle would have happened anyway, but the 1997 defeat probably wouldn't have happened, or wouldn't have been as bad. Not that I think the Tories are anything but false friends. |
