Default New general election section

As you can see, there is a new 'General Election' area for all discussion directly relating to the election.

I have also added two new sub forums to the Talk About Anything area.

I have installed RSS news feed readers for all of the main political parties, which should kick in soon - these automatically post the latest announcements from each of the parties into the relevant area on the forum. There will be an initial splurge of old news items posted, and then it will start to post them as they arrive on the official websites.

As you have probably already seen, I have now added a political blogs section which features the latest entries on a selection of blogs that I think users here will find interesting. If there any obvious ones missing, please do let me know.

The entries appear in a big rush, one site a time which brings them up to date. It is a bit messy, but once they have all done the initial posting, it will calm down and the postings wil only appear as the bloggers post them.

I am not in a political party, and I wouldn't fancy my chances as an independent against Liam Fox

I like the new General Election area and accept it is totally your call about whether to maintain it if the election is not called imminently ('cause if not so it is not likely to be till Spring 2008 at the very earliest).

Regarding the blogs & political party feeds I would suggest that if you wish to continue with those you amend the author to something generic rather than your own name. At present topics you personally create are not very distinguishable from the feeds which are also under your name. eg, if I see Anthony Butcher as author I am inclined to skip that post though with the UKIP internal award post that really was by you. I didn't skip that purely because I had not noticed that at ukip.org.

I hope that might be helpful for you.

Thanks for taking that suggestion on board so quickly. I do think you'll get more clicks than Blog Bot though!

In the likely event(my opinion)that a GE is not imminent and a long way off, what will take place in this particular space on this Forum?

Perhaps,we can use it to compare the incumbent Government Ministers in a no holds barred cameo contest against those of the other three main parties, that way,we,in UKIP could put our own Shadow PM,Cabinet,Policies and such for discussion against all and sundry.

We need to compare UKIP with the LIBLABCON on many subjects/policies and ideas to see what we in UKIP are all about in 2007 whilst awaiting a call to partake in a General Election.

Or,we can just pretend that the GE is imminent.

Well, it might become a bit quiet for a while.... and we could just move it to become a sub section of the Elections forum until it becomes likely again.

I think that they are good ideas.
