Tory has his prayers answered
Page 18 Medway messenger Friday 16th May.
TREVOR Clarke, a regular contributor to our Churches Together in Medway column, had his prayers answered when he won the Rochester South and Horsted by-election last week.
He polled 1847 votes -nearly half of those cast- to take the seat for the Tories. No surprise, really considering how much the country seems to hate Gordon Brown and Labour at the moment.
More interesting is the performance of the British National Party's candidate, Brian Ravenscroft. He polled more than twice as many votes as the Green Party candidate, more than a third Lib Dems' vote and nearly a third of the labour vote.
The BNP's far right policies seem to be tapping into concerns about immigration policies - a message our "mainstream" politicians can't afford to ignore.
This was in the David Jones: Between the Lines last Friday's Medway Messenger
