Thank you for posting this. World War Two was indeed just as pointless and self-defeating as Iraq. Nichoson Baker's new book draws attention once again to this unpleasant fact. Our involvement in that war put us on our current path towards being a land dominated and colonised by immigrants. Even in 1963 A.J.P. Taylor was suggesting as much in his 'Origins of the Second World War' - that having begun to appease Nazi Germany we ought to have continued to do so. 'Standing up to Hitler' was totally pointless.
