No, I've not been over the hill, I just know that prolonged tyranny is impossible.
Did anyone see the story of Beijing and the Forbidden City last weekend? This must have been the height of desire for wealth and economic power. Starting in 1403 Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty built his capital their using 1m+ workers driving them to the limit of their endurance for 15 years. To have any rank in his administration you had to be a Eunuch, young boys volunteered to be castrated so that they could have a chance of a successful career. Eunuch's were also used to look after his many concubines - many of whom he never met.

For wealth and power to really motivate, its restrictions must be removed so that proper dog eat dog conditions are in force. If this is what you crave all well and good, as long as you will accept the crushingly wretched life you and the vast majority will have if you are not the, or amongst the, few fittest and ablest who achieve power.
