Ask Gary Bushell or the Eng Dems
The simplest way is to ask Gary Bushell, but from what O'Connor sent those of us on his 'official' mailing list, it sounds like Bushell called him and told him the real reason he stood down.
I don't think O'Connor would make this up and the figures quoted are very, very specific.
The other answer is to ask the Eng Dems what really happened?
If it is true then O'Connor was right to step down in my opinion and the Eng Dems were fools not to pick one of their own people to stand and not risk putting up an opinionated maverick who clearly has his own ideas that were not shared by the party.
