Any normal political party would learn its lessons from this - 'gimmick candidates' be it your Matt O'Connor for the ED, or Robert Kilroy Silk and Rustie Lee for UKIP are VERY BAD IDEAS.

But one wonders if parties like the English Democrats have the collective intelligence to learn. It will be far easier for them to blame everything on some Scottish conspiracy.

Lets wait and see if some liberal blowhard 'shock jock' type appears on the English Democrats candidate lists.
Yse I agree with what you say about gimmick candidates they very rarely have anything other than a short term effect and prove more damaging in the long run.

Smaller partys would do better to promote cohrent agendas for government and taking sensible steps to ensure there candidates are 'clean'.
