Free England Back Referendum
There is a lot of speculation with regard to a referendum on Scottish independence. Scottish Labour have challenged the SNP to bring forward their proposed date of 2010 for a referendum on independence.
This leads to several issues:
Why is it just about Scotland getting a say on membership of the union?
Why isn't the rest of the union getting a say?
How is it possible to leave the future of the union in the hands of a tiny minority of the population of the UK?
This is typical of the Labour government. They refuse point blank on any form of referendum for the English nation. 7 out of 9 "Euro-regions" have been denied a referendum on regional assemblies, No vote on the Lisbon Treaty, no vote on devolution like in the rest of the UK. Even Edinburgh got a referendum on congestion charges, unlike London, which had it imposed.
Whether you support independence or whether you support the union, it should be acknowledged that everyone should have a say on how they wished to be governed. We are the only party calling for a referendum for the rest of the union if one is given to Scotland. I think everybody, regardless of your political affiliation, should demand the right to vote in a referendum on anything which affects the composition of the union.
Should we sit back idly watching the Scots deliberate on the future of the union, or should we demand our say too?
