You make it sound so warm and touchy-feely. The reality is that you are creating the myth of having our country stolen from us, with the inevitable consequences of hostility to anyone perceived as being 'anti-English' and a big hang-up about immigration. So a 'sense of humanity' is not a phrase I would associate with that.
Besides, lots of people find a sense of belonging in identifying with people across national boundaries. Why should 'the nation' be anyone's principal point of belonging? Why shouldn't we celebrate our shared interests with others in this diverse humanity?
