There is a problem of global competition possibly pushing down wage rates for unskilled jobs, but the best response to globalisation is to adapt to it as far as possible and find markets in which we can excel. Closing the doors will make us all worse off in the long run.

I understand why you take that line, however, I am afraid that conventional remedies are not going to solve the problem of globalisation, with the global monsters in league with governments, they will reach an unassailable position if that has not already happened. It would probably be possible to steadily reduce their power, if the will was there - but it would be a bloody battle.
Just seen your later post - you obviously will not agree.
The natural alternative [an iron law in its way] is that all commerce falls into the hands of a relatively small number, their purchasing power is so great they can obtain the goods and services they require at incredibly low rates which means that the buying power of consumers becomes radically reduced which in turn reduces the demand for their goods and services - and the whole structure comes tumbling down. Better governments take measures to reduce their powers before that sorry state occurs.
