Bear, wrongly so, Jews probably found that bit funny as well. It was done to make a point ironically and was an attack on anti-Semtitism over the centuries. Life of Brian was very much a parody of our time and our politics. Anyone who has been involved at any level in UK politics will recognise the characters in this scene:
