And here was me thinking you were a closet ED supporter Danny.
I would first say wait for the results of the local elections and London elections before considering anything else. As Mr Tilbrook said in relation to London in the statement provided by Kentishman, "we have great hopes of getting a candidate elected, particularly on the party list...".
If that were to happen the whole situation would be turned on its head, the EDs would rightly be rejoicing at the greatest success in their history, O'Connor would be forgotten instantly and Uncles would be feted as an electoral genius.
If however they do not gain any assembly members things will look a bit different. I'm not a fan of scapegoating people in general and as Andrew C has acknowledged it is a good achievement for the EDs under Uncles to have been able to put up a full slate of candidates for the London elections. So it is right as I think you suggest Danny that the whole of the National Council accept responsibility for this situation, including in the spirit of unity those who opposed O'Connor becoming the candidate in the first place. I would think some collective contrition by the NC and rather than any resignations their seeking some sort of continued endorsement from the membership might be the way to go.
There is one added complication though which is the loans provided to the EDs from their senior members. The London campaign will have cost a small fortune and I assume Mr Tilbrook is correct in saying, "At no time has any funds been received from Matt.", despite what I will presume unless corrected is a false assertion by the BBC that O'Connor paid his own deposit, "the candidate had been "frustrated" by the lack of coverage, after paying the £10,000 deposit needed to enter the race."
Where has all the money come from? If it has cost less than £50K I'll be surprised, something closer to though not above £100K might seem more likely though I of course have no particular knowledge about it. Getting back to the complication is the possibility that the senior members have again personally provided through more loans or donations the financing for this campaign. And that any such loans or donations will continue to have a significant influence on the control of the ED party. Constable, Tilbrook and Uncles are already owed substantial sums by the EDs. If it was one or more of their own cash which has financed the London campaign that would make it extremely difficult for any objective assessment of their actions to take place and equally difficult for any objective decisions about their respective futures within the party.
