I doubt that they are conducting a race as cookie65 pointed out lorries have limiters and different firms set at different limits e.g. Hanbury Davies have 52 as the limit although there are difference within fleets.
One may have more weight on board and will struggle a bit more and don't talk about gear changes I know it's easier with preselects but drivers would rather not change to often
anyway if it irritates you I'm all for it
the drivers probably an ethnic as well - that will really cheer you up
