Do you have a source/link for this most interesting piece of information, RJT?
What I want is a copy of a press report about and/or a statement/letter from The Late Enoch Powell in which it is confirmed that he backed UKIP at the Newbury Parliamentary By-Election of 1993.
This would be very useful to me in case - when I quote the above information from you - I am asked to verify it with a source.
In 2006, eurosceptic Daily Telegraph columnist Simon Heffer (official biographer of The Late Enoch Powell) backed UKIP candidate Mr. Nigel Farage MEP at the Bromley-Chislehurst Parliamentary By-Election but his support was for Mr. Farage in particular in that contest and not for UKIP in general.
I was just wondering if the same scenario applied to Mr. Powell at Newbury (i.e. that Mr. Powell may have backed the UKIP candidate at Newbury but not necessarily the actual party there or the party overall nationally from that time onwards)? From what you write, RJT (quote above), it appears that that may have been the case.
Any link to a report confirming Mr. Powell's support for the UKIP candidate and/or for the party itself at Newbury in 1993 would be appreciated.
