The police advise 2 sources for the guns :-
Ireland ,there are a lot of guns in circulation and though there has been some decommissioning many handguns were retained by their owners , the cross Irish sea routes are no longer given the surveillance that they would have been 10 years ago ,all available anti-terrorist police concentrate on Islamic terrorists.
East Europe ,in particular , and the EU , in general . If you fly from the EU to Uk there is a good chance you would be stopped but coming across by sea almost nil particularly if you arrive privately or as crew on a merchant navy (incl trawlers) ship, even passengers on the cross channel would stand a good chance of not being stopped but any professional criminal would use one of the previously mentioned routes in.
Absolutely no point in banning guns as long as suppply routes from other sources are easily accessible. All you do is put the majority at the mercy of criminal elements and/or a dictatorial Govt.
