Sadly emotion guided the decision to ban guns, it was not logical but that is the way many decisions are made . As has been said many times law based on one or two events is usually bad law.
The population in this country was never ever armed to the teeth with guns, it was a hobby enjoyed by many and banning did nothing to increase the security or wellbeing of the average citizen and just gave the criminal element a significant advantage since they were quite willing to ignore the law and as a result the number of guns in criminal hands has escalated dramatically, it is extremely easy to get a gun .
