I'll try and clear this up for you. People can't just protest anywhere. You need to have a permit and you need to stick to the route and not violate any laws or incite a riot during the act. People can't just go around stopping traffic and harassing normal citizens because they are outraged. These people were not legal protesters, they were disrupting a city and ruining people's days. They were breaking the law. Once you have broken the law you have broken the law and that is it. You must obey the police to an extent, which means if they tell you to stop and shutup you must, but if they say, "I am going to rape you," then you don't have to obey.
I am no friend to the cops and I agree with you that a lot, but not all, are undereducated and power hungry but that doesn't make them evil. Police have a highly stressful work environment where they have to make split decisions that could cost them their lives or other peoples. A lot of the problems that arise today are from the lack of respect people have for the law. People think that they can do whatever they want without any repercussions. Guess what, you can't. Just because you think the law is unjust doesn't mean you can disobey it. People need to work within the law for change and they need to stop believing the world revolves around them.
