Thanks for all the replies, @ Frith - it's acknowledging Plato, my first venture into philosophy.
@ Roland - I picked up on my teachers Labour bias. Thankfully my girlfriend was very much on the Conservative side of things, and I'm edging towards the more Liberal end of the spectrum so issues were battered around quite a bit before and conclusions were reached (in my head). But it's an interesting point you make.
