When people talk about the current economic climate they keep the myth going. I don't think the UK is really heading for a recession as people think. Everything is controlled really by the people. It's us that cause inflation when we buy expensive stuff. Perhaps we should be forcing prices down.
If you're told something enough you tend to believe it but all we have to do is spend like we always have. I see no sign of this economic decline in Southampton. I just see the same empty buildings that have been empty for the last 5 years. The shops selling necessities (food, clothing etc) and luxuries (televisions, dvd players, computers etc) are all still going strong.
Ikon/Diva are being refurbished and will be reopening soon so they must be making money to be able to afford that. Although, saying that, the night-time economy will always contribute a large share (around 10%) of GDP anyway as we all enjoy going out, even with hardly any cash!
