If your chums go ahead (which to be honest would be pretty foolhardy and potentially a financial disaster if they lose) and succeed then will the EDs claim the credit for dealing the final toll on Dartford as a place to shop?

Come on that's over reacting a bit. You may have noticed Dartford has a lot of shops in Bluewater for example. It's hardly going to "kill" Dartford off.
What towns like this need are decent regeneration projects, not building on parks, and not tacky cheapo 00's architecture which involves those stupid pieces of metal stuck to the roof and some cheap wood facings.
If the council are in breach of what they are supposed to be doing, then good I hope somebody does stop them. Selling off land to another Tesco, Asda or whatever has been going on for far too long and has killed off local shops in some towns.
If this was my town I'd be happy Tax money was being spent on the issue. Property developers in my area of England have got away with far too much and councils have ignored peoples protests. It's about time somebody told them to ****** off. Nobody ever listens to these kidns of protests. Check out Harlow North or Mereham and you'll see what I mean. RDA's, councils etc. building and selling off land where they like with giving two sh**s what the local population think.
If UKIP want to be successful at local elections they need to start helping local people fight proposals like this and Mereham, Tesco's in Hove/Shoreham etc. and build popular support, not go chasing Freemason bogeymen and the space alien Illuminati
