"Lincolnshire Earthquake of 27.2.2008 being blamed on global warming" (claim)
Popular presenter James Whale said on his Talksport radio programme at 0041 am this morning "I have also heard that a few people are already blaming yesterday's Earthquake in Lincolnshire on (alleged) global warming."
Mr. Whale was responding to a claim from a telephone caller to his programme who said that he had heard of some supporters of the anti-climate change campaign saying that the Earthquake was due to "global warming".
"The next ice age may start within months - no one knows for sure" said Mr. Whale who added "the only thing scientists really know is that the planet is alive and the climate changes."
Mr. Whale, who believes that the world is warming up but that humans are not responsible for it, said on his programme this morning at 0043 am "Politicians are using the global warming issue to raise tax."
"The biggest problem the planet faces is too many people" Mr. Whale said. He also said "We - humans - are very privileged to live in this world which is habitable: but it won't always be that way."
Mr. Whale said at 0053 am today "Things change with regard to the climate- everything is going to change and there is nothing we can do about it: we should get used to change." He concluded "The world does not stay the same - don't worry about climate change."
Aaron e-mailed Mr. Whale's programme at 0057 am today to say "the world was warmer than it is now in 800AD and that was the time Viking explorers crossed the open seas in open boats."
