I am not so sure about eased Cassie, he was whipped in by new Labour, there is in theroy supposed to be a free vote on who is speaker, I think every other candidate had some cross party support except Martin the whips were determined to have him and make use of thier massive majority. People were cajoled and bullied into supporting him just as the Labour Whips now are threatening MPS who are sticking to the referndum pledge.
