He was lucky to get the job of Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister.
Had Lord Tebbit's wife not been injured in that dreadful republican terrorist attack (resulting in Lord Tebbit spending time to look after her and not being able to stand for the leadership) and if Lord Parkinson had stood for the Conservative leadership then europhile Major would not have even been in the running to replace Lady Thatcher (as Conservative leader and Prime Minister).
