I would the cameras as since they've been introduced the death rate on the roads , which was reducing, has plateaued

True, road safety lessons would be a good idea but this from JW almost suggests that the driver has no responsibility - it's the victims fault.

Many pedestrians and cyclist walk out without looking - I hope they don't drive like that but I suspect they do - The motorist is usually seen as a handy scapegoat - didn't the EU propose that any RTA would be automatically blameed on the motorist at one point

No, it's a way of raiding the pockets of those who - basically - break the law. I personally don't want more speed camera's but if, applied sensibly in built up areas - say around schools, I would support them, providing that the income generated went, say, to providing extra-curricular road safety lessons and helping kids out of the school run culture onto bikes or walking.
In general, I support a 20 limit in built up areas, particularly around schools.
