I work part time in Sainsbury's to pay myself through university (I am currently in my third year).
In our store we must have more immigrants than Britons and I must say, I agree that the immigrants have the better work ethic. One just needs to watch the first episode of Milton Friedman's 'Free to Choose' to see why.
Whether this would extend to other markets is a different question, but in the cheap, low labour job market, it is understandable.
We have productivity ratings, which many of the Britons who work full time fail to meet, I would say well over 75%. Sainbury's results may be skewed, however, since the elderly Britons that work for them will generally be slower and the younger will generally be part time. Whereas immigrants have no other commitments.
But I must stress, that from personal experience, the immigrants in my work place do seem to have a better work ethic.
