I think it's several things. One is the mass influx of Mexicans across our border, and this after 9/11. Makes us pause.

Second, well alot of us are sore over NAFTA. It's not free trade, it's government managed trade. Now, we have an expansion of it? I think not. No one I know wants to fund Mexico's bad behaviour (ie their elite nasty government).

Three is Ron Paul. Many Conservatives who felt left out by the Republican Party are behind the man. He speaks the truth in a way politicians normally just don't.

The thing I wonder is does anyone have a theory as to why this is happening in very different places. Why we're all getting supra-national government attempts.

From my perspective I live in a resource rich nation with an intelligent workforce, and the breadbasket of the world.

You all live on a medium sized island off the coast of Europe, largely dependent on trade, and effectively handling it.

But, despite our differences as to the fundamental nature of our countries, we are facing ultimately the same problem. How to prevent this.

I still wonder though, what is the reason. And can it be coincidence. It doesn't feel that way.
