That's a good solid statement, and even offers a UKIP policy solution, something often missing from party statements (although obviously the cost must be considered).

Do we? I can't say that I or anyone I know would be too bothered if they were packed in like sardines. The more unpleasant it is in prison the better as far as I am concerned.
On the other hand, I would also support more innovative systems, such as military-style boot camps to beat some discipline and decency into non-violent offenders, rather than keeping them in prison.
