Default Story books on homosexuality for primary school children

phagocyte asked about what evidence I had about 'story books' for school childen promoting homosexuality and what age group was involved.

REPLY: Some light on this subject is shed by this Free Church of Scotland statement issued in 2001 (relevant parts highlighted). There is more on the Christian Institute website if you want to find out more about these books:

Sex lessons for kids

QUOTE

I’m just about to head for the hills for a little R ‘n’ R. Rest and relaxation is what I need but let me have one more ‘rage against the machine’ before I leave.

There is so much going on this week that it is difficult to know what to write.

Should it be the fact that Britain now has thirty new millionaires per day under our so called ‘socialist’ government?

Should it be a comment on the disgraceful decision of George Bush to go back on the Kyoto agreement?

Both these can wait. Whilst Bush agrees to give a free hand to those who pollute the environment, our wonderful Scottish Executive has done the same with those who seek to pollute the mind.

The story so far.

In a move motivated by political correctness and the desire to please the homosexual lobby in the media and political establishment, the Scottish Executive decided to abolish the infamous ‘Section 28’.

Despite a strong opposition campaign led by the Catholic Church and local Christian businessman, Brian Soutar, the Scottish parliament pressed ahead and last week section 28 was finally abolished. What was this section 28? It forbade the promotion of homosexuality in schools.

Now most parents think that that is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. But there are those who regarded it as a dangerous piece of discriminative legislation put forward by a vindictive Mrs Thatcher.

The arguments for abolishing it were quite clear – it was harmful to children because it did not allow teachers to deal with issues such as homophobic bullying.

It was unnecessary because no school was going to promote homosexuality anyway.

Some of the arguments were disingenuous – section 28 did not forbid the discussion of homosexuality. It forbade its promotion. Nonetheless the section was lost and the government promised that they would issue advice to schools on sex education which would allay parents fears about the undermining of marriage and the promotion of homosexuality.

A week ago we all received a copy of the government’s advice. It looked good. There were some major concessions.

Parents were to be consulted and were given the right to withdraw their children from sex education lessons. There was talk of the primacy of marriage and everyone seemed to be happy.

Only the Christian Institute an excellent research organization from Newcastle, seemed unhappy. They were dismissed as ‘fundamentalist extremists’ by the Scottish Executive and the Scottish media.

But not for long. Within one week The Scotsman was headlining with the Christian Institute’s well produced material. In particular they drew attention to the resources which the Executive were recommending – these included Taking Sex Seriously, Living and Growing, Taught not Caught and the Primary School sex and relationships package. Let me illustrate some of the lowlights in these particular materials. Bear in mind that these are by no means the worst (which I would not produce on this website) and bear in mind that this is what the Scottish Executive is recommending should be used in our schools.

- The Living and Growing video for 9-11 year olds shows a boy asking ‘What’s a gay lover?’ Accompanied by footage of homosexual men kissing and lesbians embracing. It argues that there is no difference between heterosexual ‘love’ and homosexual.

- The Sex and Relationships Education pack urges 7-11 years olds to discuss “Anne and Jack live with their mum and her partner, Pauline” in a non judgmental way. They also ask the teachers to discuss sexual terms and practices such as anal intercourse - with 7-11 year olds!

- Knowing Me, Knowing You for 9-11 year olds comes out with two completely false statements – ‘One in every ten people is sexually attracted to someone of the same sex’ and ‘there is nothing wrong with feeling attracted to someone of the same sex’.

- Taking Sex Seriously (for 11-14 years) advocates role play for homosexuals and asks children to discuss, amongst other situations, “Fiona is 16 and a lesbian. She is having a sexual relationship with Janet who is 22. Janet has a three year old son.” It also suggests that “a useful ‘homework’ task is for young people to actually go into a chemist and buy condoms and report back on what it was like, how they felt, how they could make it easier next time etc.”

- The Scottish Executive has also put money towards a project called ‘Healthy Respect’ run as a model for the whole country by Lothian Health Board. One of the key partners in this project is the Stonewall Youth Project. This homosexual group are obscene in the extreme and yet they are being given some responsibility for the education of our children.

It is no wonder that there has been uproar?

If Mr McConnell, the education minister, was unhappy or disagreed with the publications, if he did not intend teachers to use them then why did he recommend them? It is not the majority of Scottish teachers that are at fault – it is the government. It is a bit rich for the Scottish Executive, which demonstrated itself to be so out of touch with the majority of the Scottish people on this issue, to claim that they are in the mainstream of Scottish thinking.

Those of us who are parents must ensure that our children are protected from this pollution of the mind. Some will feel constrained and will have the resources to take their children out of the state education system (although I believe in the state education system – the minute this kind of thing became compulsory my children would be out).

Those of us who do not take this route must use the freedom and the influence that we have to ensure that no children, not just our own, are taught this smut.

If we fail to act then we cannot blame the Scottish Executive, the teachers or the state of society in general. We have only ourselves to blame. For evil to succeed it is only necessary that good men do nothing...
