The Social Liberal originates from when the Liberal Party under Hebert Asquith and Lloyd George moved beyond just the defence of Liberty and low taxation as under Gladstone and on to creating the Welfare state i.e. unemployment benefit, old age pensions etc.
The Liberal Democrats and Tony Blair’s Labour are Social Liberals.
Capitalism combined with welfarism.
Most European countries under the PR system have Social Liberal parties and Classical Liberal parties.
