I think Kilroy had a lot to do with it. Obviously the money was and will be important but so was Kilroy. The interest in UKIP increased exponentially from the moment he declared for us.
Recruiting Kilroy though was a massive gamble which made everyone feel good for a short time and bought short term success, but ultimately proved a disaster for the party. Nigel seems to have learned nothing from the escapade and has placed the recruiting of celebrities high on his list of priorities. He is proposing to make further cheap gimmicks a major part of his strategy. I suppose it beats working for a living.
