My best guess

Is that the BBC and The Guardian and The Independent has a far greater influence on British society than even their combined very substantial viewer/listener/reader figures would suggest in that such organizations appeal to extremist left-wingers and well intentioned do-gooder left wingers and these people tend to have disproportinate influence on British society, why I say disproportinate influence on British society is that in the case of extremist left-wingers they have objectives and are happy to employ means of achieving those objectives which are on a par with Hitler's Third Reich, so their [ ie the extremist left wingers ] sheer ruthlessness would make their activities have a disproportinate influence on British society even if the adherents of extremist left wing ideology were small in numbers [ whilst it is the case they actually constitute large numbers of UK residents ] and in the case of both the extremists Left-wingers and the well intentioned Left wing do-gooders they often are in positions e.g. education where there is no sanction for appaling job performance and there are often posative rewards for engageing in society damaging activities eg in respect of the police I would take a guess a faster route to promotion is becoming an internal affairs officer and destroying a decent police officers' career because he called a fellow officer a "black w#nker" when the comment was intended as nothing more than harmless banter and nothing racist was intended, whilst actually going out on the beat and trying to stop thugs terrorizeing black or white people would leave you stuck as a PC for the rest of your life: with result that the extremist left-wingers and their well intentioned do-gooder Left wing fellow travellers have the time and money to purse their leftist projects because their job and career are not performance tested and they can often advantage themselves financially and career wise by seeing extremist leftist society damageing initiatives implemented.
