Two different issues there, Britannist.
USA uses (a version of) Imperial and drives on the right. UK uses Imperial and drives on the left. Australia uses metric and drives on the left. Continental Europe uses metric and drives on the right. Put otherwise, all possible combinations exist.

I am not opposed to metric for uses where it has benefits. Changing our road signs isn't one of them.
