Apartheid immigration points policy ‘re-introduces colour bar by stealth’
07-03-2006
The Government is condoning apartheid by effectively re-introducing the colour bar INTO phpbb_British immigration policy, U.K. Independence Party MEP Nigel Farage said today (7.3.06), following the launch of the Government’s new points based immigration system.
Mr Farage said that the exclusion of the 200,000 EU citizens who arrived in the UK each year ‘made a nonsense of the entire system’, and allowed untrammelled white immigration whilst placing serious constraints on non-white immigration from outside the EU.
“The idea of an immigration system which applies only to certain applicants should fill us with horror. The points system of immigration is one which UKIP supports wholeheartedly, but only so long as it applies to all immigrants. It is fundamental in our society that we are all equal before the law, but apparently white, eastern European immigrants are now more equal than black, African ones.
“I find it unbelievable that a Government which contains so many ministers who fought apartheid in South Africa are happy to introduce it in the UK.
“Our nation has historic links with the Commonwealth, and yet now Polish plumbers and Hungarian bricklayers will have an inbuilt advantage over Pakistani doctors and Ghanian nurses. We have always believed that immigration should be decided on the basis of space, not race, and yet clearly neither New Labour nor Blue Labour share this view. UKIP alone believes that we should aim for a fair, points based system which creates net zero immigration: the numbers arriving should equal the number leaving the UK.”
