You don't understand the local history behind it. Which is exactly why the 'newcomers' should get off their high horses.

I know I'd be mightily peeved if someone started calling for big changes to my local village because they didn't understand the uniqueness or quirkiness behind certain aspects of it.

Quaint little villages, little quirks and local history/legends make England (and incidentally, the rest of the UK) a very interesting Country.
