What UKIP needs is a comprehensive 'Green' agenda.

It may sound a bit too much like tree-hugging for some people but i think it is key for 3 reasons:

1. A green agenda would show UKIPs social commitment
2. It is economically sensible - Shifting the burden of tax toward eco-taxes would slowly re-strucutre the economy to be less reliant on Oil, thus making Britain more resistant to Oil price shocks.
3. Making Britain more energy self sufficent through renewables will reduce our dependence on 'resource wealthy' but politically unstable regions.

What the Government doesn't understand is that taxes designed to discourage consumption must only be used in conjuntion with other policies. For example there is no point in raising fuel duty if we do not provide subsidies for hybrid vehicles/more fuel efficient cars. There is no advantage in taxing petrol but not providing an alternative.

Sin taxes only work if consumers have a choice.
