B.A.Ware is quite right to say only Candidates with a Certificate of Authorisation from the UKIP Nominating Officer or one of his Deputy Nominating Officers can stand in any election using the UKIP Name or Logo. Any Candidate should also sign a declaration before they are accepted. The declaration is a standard form in all branch packs and is the same form that Branch officers and Westminster MP Candidates have to sign. The completed forms are supposed to be returned to UKIP Head Office in Birmingham.

As Deputy Nominating Officer for the North East region I do not accept any candidate for any election unless the Declaration is signed. The Standard form contains 7 points and I must admit I have modified the North East Region Form to include an additional clause. Namely that the Candidate agrees that should he or she be successful in being elected as a UKIP Candidate then they will donate back to the Party a fixed amount of any allowances they receive as a result of their election. The form also says that should they at any time cease to be a member of UKIP then they will resign any elected post they hold. The additional clause is probably not enforceable in law but it does give a certain moral pressure and avoids any "Gentlemen's Agreement" scenario which is equally unenforceable.
