I have some hazy recollection that after the 1997 General Election, UKIP joined a formal alliance with a number of other eurosceptic groups including the Green Party. This was imaginatively named the New Alliance. The Greens withdrew at some later date, believing that the alliance restricted their ability to stand candidates against UKIP, and the New Alliance then went INTO phpbb_deep hibernation. Am I remembering this correctly?

I see that a website still exists:

http://www.iits.dircon.co.uk/newalliance/

It isn't great, but it seems to be still updated and contains a useful section on the Civil Contingencies Bill. However, I can't see any specific mention of UKIP, or the Green Party, or any other actual political parties - though the site does talk a lot about "unity", in very general terms.

Does anyone remember anything more about the New Alliance? Can you correct or confirm what I've written above? I ask because if we are discussing co-operation between euroscptical parties, then it might be worth looking at previous efforts in that direction, to see what we can learn and to identify any pitfalls to ignore next time around.
