While I think it would be a grave mistake for the party to expell RKS (I would expect a vote on it), I do think he is putting a bit too much weight behind his influence.
UKIP was already on the up when he joined, I remember not being sure if him joining was a good thing or not, as he definitley was seen to have baggage. However he did a great job and has helped the party get more members and exposure no doubt.
He has resigned the whip and the leadership should except that. If they were to throw him out without asking the membership, it will be seen as them running scared of losing the leadership to him later on. This would be very bad for the party and while I don't think it would destroy it, it would set it back years.
If the leadership read this forum, I urge you to leave the issue alone now and concentrate on winning seats at the election. Any more negative actions would put the leadership in a terrible light and would show contempt for the membership. Do a great job at the election and people will want to keep a winning team in tact.
